Supporting businesses since 1903
The Institute of Directors (IoD) has been supporting businesses and the people who run them since 1903. As the UK’s longest-running organisation for professional leaders, the IoD is dedicated to supporting its members, encouraging entrepreneurial activity and promoting responsible business practice for the benefit of the business community and society as a whole.
The IoD professional development programmes
High standards of excellence and professionalism in the boardroom are essential for organisations of all sizes and in all sectors of the economy to succeed. The IoD professional development programmes provide specific training for current and aspiring directors who wish to stay abreast of governance and leadership developments. Chartered Director – the IoD’s flagship qualification for directors, awarded under Royal Charter – is the only professional director award of its kind.

history of the iod bermuda
The IoD Bermuda Limited was originally formed as a branch of the United Kingdom’s Institute of Directors (IoD) in 1991. During its early years, IoD Bermuda concentrated on increasing membership and developing a director community through the delivery of educational seminars, hosting an annual member dinner, developing the Young Enterprise program, and providing scholarships to students attending the Bermuda College.
As Bermuda’s status as a leading international financial centre developed, there was also an increasing focus by international regulatory agencies and executive business leaders worldwide on ensuring the application of good corporate governance principles and practices across industry sectors.
In 2012, IoD Bermuda revitalisation discussions began with the desire to support the jurisdiction in retaining its premier status by creating greater awareness of developments in corporate governance principles and practices, and promoting professionalism for directors.
In 2013, IoD Bermuda was relaunched to grow and diversify the resident director pool by providing current and aspiring directors access to the knowledge, skills and mind-set training available through the IoD Chartered Director programme, topical seminars led by subject matter experts and networking events which stimulate thinking and encourage debate on governance issues facing businesses in Bermuda.
